Arnold, Charles Frodsham, 84 Strand, London, marine chronometer with 48-hour winding indicator, mounted in a spring loaded brass tub to allow vertical movement, unmarked three tier mahogany outer box with brass drop handles, silvered dial of approximately 3.5 inch diameter signed "Arnold, Chas Frodsham, 84. Strand, London, No 2014," KWKS, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement, free-sprung bi-metallic compensation balance with blued steel helical hairspring, s#2014 with matching number scratched into tub.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, excellent cosmetic movement condition overall, light spotting and micro-fine scratches to plates; excellent-plus dial with very light surface spotting, wear to brass on perimeter where the dial meets the case; excellent blued steel hands with light oxide at tips; tub in fine overall condition, good spring function, missing most of the original lacquered finish, numerous areas of tarnish and wear to brass; box in need of restoration as bottom is missing, remaining portion of box with numerous dings and scrapes as well as several large cracks on lid and sides.
